Mosese, affectionately known as Moji in his community, used his knowledge and background in data collection and his role as a volunteer at the local Disaster Risk Reduction Club to support changes that are occurring within his community.
Moji had attended a joint workshop and mapathon focused on open data management and OpenStreetMap for DRR run by the PCRAFI Project in SPC and OSM Fiji held on the 10th-11th of March 2021. The event had 25 attendees focused on university students, but also included interested industry practitioners who were first time mappers.
Using the lessons learnt from the workshop, Moji was able to map his own community using global satellites, and update these maps to ensure they accurately reflect Valenicina and its environment.
